In 2005 we sent out 5.7 million pounds of food from our warehouse; a record breaking year. That year Hurricane Katrina destroyed many cities along the coast of Louisiana. That spike in pounds distributed is no surprise, because Katrina is the biggest natural disaster in our history. It goes without saying that it would make sense to have the highest distribution in a year with a large natural disaster. HPFB sent truckloads of food and supplies to New Orleans that year. The community came out in full force and the employees of the Food Bank were working 14 hour days to keep up with the demand. The outpouring was fast and hefty! This was until now the record. [more]
What a record....
This year's Together We Can Holiday Food Drive was an enormous success! We camped out at Market Street United the week of December 6-11 and boy did the community really come out to help us!!! Here is a list of the schools and businesses that participated in the week-long event: [more]
