ABOUT KIDS CAFE

Kids Cafe, a program of Feeding America, prepares, delivers, and serves healthy weekday meals to at-risk students and some vulnerable senior adults. Kids Cafe provides an early dinner each weekday, so children don’t have to go home hungry. Kids Cafe confronts childhood hunger by providing nutritious, balanced meals that meet USDA guidelines. These meals are prepared and delivered using the highest quality and safety standards. Meals are provided without charge and are the same for all children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Kids Cafe also provides weekday meals for at-risk senior adults who need consistent daily nutrition and fellowship at handful of apartment complexes.

Dear Parent or Guardian:

This letter serves as a notice and reminder that meals provided to the after school programs mentioned below are always free to students enrolled in the after school programs. Meals are provided at no cost to the partner sites. High Plains Food Bank Kids Cafe program does not sell food or food related products to the after school partners. The meal service operates from October to September yearly.

If your student is enrolled in any of the following after school programs listed below, they are also enrolled in the CACFP, a USDA program which High Plains Food Bank Kids Cafe receives federal assistance dollars for serving nutritious meals. The amount of money our agency receives from this program is based on the income levels of our communities. The funding reimbursed covers the cost of food that is provided to your student. Our generous donors and supporters provide additional funding for things like transport, kitchen equipment, operational costs, etc.

To continue providing a quality meal service without any charges, we are required to collect some data at the after school site like attendance, racial/ethnic data, etc. We collect this data directly from the after school program. The data is only shared with the Texas Department of Agriculture and USDA.

Please feel free to contact Maribel Sotelo, Director of Kids Cafe via email maribel@hpfb.org or phone 806-350-1436 with any questions, comments, concerns, or complaints.

In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), religious creed, disability, age, political beliefs, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

2025 Summer Meal Sites For Students

Every child deserves a full plate and a bright future. High Plains Food Bank's Kids Cafe program is partnering with community centers, WIC centers, apartments, and other youth programs to provide ready to eat, no-cost meals, or snacks to kids in Amarillo and Canyon Texas this summer. Each meal site has different hours and days of operation. Please contact each site directly to find out when meals are available for students.

Through our Summer Meals Sites, children 18 and younger and enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old can enjoy a no-cost breakfast, lunch, or snack - no food registration or ID required. The program where students receive meals may require registration information, please check with them first. These partnerships are required to provide enrichment activities for children in safe environments and meet applicable state and local health, safety, and sanitation standards. Meals and snacks are provided in a congregate setting (students must eat the meal on site and during the hours assigned to that meal site). Meals cannot be removed from the partnering site.
