High Plains Food Bank strives to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while continuing to alleviate hunger across the Texas Panhandle. To protect the health of our staff and community, High Plains Food Bank’s facilities are closed to the general public. An informational table is located in our entryway and an intercom is available for further assistance.

How High Plains Food Bank Works

High Plains Food Bank is the clearinghouse and distribution center for about 185 feeding partners, all of which are non-profit (501C3) organizations including emergency food pantries, shelters, recovery centers, & other non-profits. Our network of feeding partners spans the 29-county service area to serve people facing food insecurity in their communities.

Except for a few highly targeted direct feeding programs, including Kids Cafe, CSFP senior food boxes, direct mobile distribution, and Mobile Harvest, we are not able to distribute food to the general population. It is against tax code for us to sell our inventory and critical that the community understands that the food bank cannot directly distribute or sell food or product to individuals.

Our staff has been inundated with walk-ins and phone calls from people seeking to purchase food or hygiene items they cannot find in stores.

A Facebook group called Panhandle COVID-19 Home Help is a grassroots effort allowing neighbors to help each other. For person to person assistance, please visit:https://www.facebook.com/groups/2888605351258209/

Financial Gifts Urgently Needed

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to impact those struggling with hunger. We are gathering every possible resource to provide food and supplies to all who need it, but we’re facing a sharp increase in demand.

More kids, parents, and seniors in our community are going hungry as a result of this ongoing crisis. Those who were already struggling face even greater challenges – not only to be fed, but to stay healthy. Nourishing food is the most basic need for our vulnerable neighbors.

We don’t know what the future holds, but we know your kindness is needed right now. HPFB’s initial COVID-19 community response goal is $500,000. Every gift matters. Please give online at www.hpfb.org/donate.

We exist to alleviate hunger in The Panhandle.  We do this in many different ways.

First, we provide food, a basic need. We delivered 8.25 million pounds of food in 2018 to the 29 counties we serve, in the top of the Texas Panhandle.  According to 2014 data from our most recent hunger study, we served an estimated 92,000 people, in 8,000 different families, through our partner agencies. This is a tangible way you can see what we are doing at the Food Bank. It has been a long-standing tradition since our inception to deliver shelf-stable and fresh foods to the people that need them.  We distribute the food through our over 190 agencies that work hand in hand with us to pinpoint need in their communities.  We deliver this basic need to people who need help getting back on their feet.
